Jennifer Lawrence on GMA: ‘Hunger Games,’ Body Image, Her New Haircut and More (Video)

Jennifer Lawrence spoke with her trademark candor about ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ body image, her new pixie haircut, her ongoing ailment and more in a live interview at the Good Morning America Times Square Studio in New York City.

The Oscar-winning 23-year-old actress spoke with ABC’s Robin Roberts about the movie and other topics; video is below. The night before she and her costars, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, attended the New York premiere of the movie at AMC Lincoln Square.

Asked how she felt the day before ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” was to open in theaters in the U.S., she said, “I was so excited when I saw it. It’s such a great movie.” She was also asked about her initial reluctance to take on the role as the heroine Katniss Everdeen when it was first offered to her. She said, “I was like, yeah, I’ll probably have fun on the first movie and then be bored on the rest of them but I’m so relieved and so excited because the group of people is so fun. And also her journey keeps getting more and more exciting so, yeah, definitely not bored.”

Robin Roberts drew a parallel between Katniss Everdeen as a reluctant victor and Jennifer Lawrence as a reluctant star. “The stakes are a lot lower,” she joked. She went on to say, “Most of my friends are kind of trying to figure out what they want to do. I just feel so lucky that I’m doing what I love and I can do that forever. So what comes along with that is just part of it.”

She was asked about her illness at ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ L.A. premiere and she said she had had bad abdominal pains for three weeks and finally went to have it check out. She went on to note that it is as of now undiagnosed: “They’re saying it could either be in my lower intestine or all in my mind. I’m going to cross my fingers for it’s all in my mind and I’m just crazy. Now it’s reported in the news that I went to the emergency room for gas, which is awesome.” She laughed and said, “Let’s confirm that.”

Asked about whether she was a prankster on the set, she said, “I’m not creative enough to do like actual pranks. I think I’m just mean to everybody and everybody’s like, ‘Oh, she’s such a prankster,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’m serious.’”

She added, “That’s our set. When we watch these movies we’re like, ‘Wow, we actually buckled down and did a movie. I didn’t know that we actually did that’ because we’re so busy punching each other.”

She was also asked about the sheer Dior couture dress she wore at the L.A. premiere (red carpet picture is above) and if it was her favorite look. She said, “No, I wouldn’t say that. I think any time a girl has to show her thighs it’s never going to be her favorite look. I love the dress. Someone else wore it.”

Asked to reflect on previous comments she has made about body image and how criticism of people’s looks has become a sport, she said, “It’s become funny to make fun of each other…I also don’t like women slaughtering women. We’re so responsible for this younger generation, this media…I just don’t like it. Why can’t we be nice? It’s like we grow up and we go right back to high school.”

As for the pixie haircut, she said, “It was really impulsive. I was like I’m cutting it and then it was just all gone. And now I just look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Yeah, it is. It’s gone.’”
